Character Synopsises[]

Carlos[]

Nancy asks Carlos to come down here and when he scoffs about "typical TK" telling him he wants to talk only when he's in the ICU after not having spoke to Carlos in months, she tells him that TK didn't actually ask to radio Carlos today. Carlos tells her that she said he wanted him here and Nancy replies that it was a lie. Carlos starts to ask her why she would lie about that but they're interrupted by the boy's - Abe - mother who asks Nancy if she's one of the paramedics who save her son. Nancy says that she is and the mother tells her that she's a hero. Nancy replies that she isn't, the hero is "her friend TK" who went into the pond to save her son. Nancy asks the mother how is Abe doing and she replies that he'll make a full recovery and that she wants them to know how grateful she is for them and that they're all praying for TK. Once she's gone, Carlos asks Nancy how serious it is and Nancy replies that it's not good and that Tommy is with the doctor right now, getting the latest news. Tommy comes out of TK's room and when Nancy asks her what the doctor say, Tommy replies that they have to find Owen, implying that TK's condition is not good at all.

Owen[]

Owen brings the man back to his cabin, laying him on the floor to treat his stab wound. He's interrupted by Sadie who visits him with hot toddies before she notices the other man. Owen tells her that he found the man in the snow, that he's hypothermic and have a stab wound that hit a brachial artery. He asks Sadie to take a clean pair of socks from the dresser and vodka, which she does, because Owen is going to have to cauterize the wound. He tells her that she has to try putting the socks in the man's mouth to see if he can bite down on it, she asks him if she should give him a glass of vodka first and Owen replies that the vodka is for them. The man wakes up and Sadie tells him in Spanish what's going to happen before Owen starts cauterizing the wound. The man passes out because of the pain. Owen tells Sadie that he's going to need a hospital and asks her if there's a landline at her place. She tells him that she doesn't, but she has something that could replace it.

Later, Sadie comes back to the cabin, holding a box which contained a "relic", Owen asks her when the last time was, she used it and Sadie replies that she never did but her ex, Clyde, collected ham radio. She apologizes that she doesn't have the instructions, but Owen tells her that it's fine and they'll figure it out together. Sadie gives him the emergency frequencies and Owen calls for help with the radio. It works and Owen manages to get in contact with the 9-1-1 dispatch of Kerrville. Dispatch tells him that they're jammed with the storm, but they'll send someone up there whenever they can before cutting the communication. Sadie realizes that he's actually a firefighter and Owen jokes about it being less exciting than an axe murderer. Sadie disagrees. While the man is unconscious, Sadie and Owen sit together at the table and Sadie wonders who stabbed him which Owen does too. She asks him if the man said anything to Owen and Owen replies that he was speaking Spanish and was pretty agitated. Sadie guesses that he's probably there illegally and that Coyotes use these backcountry roads as smuggling routes. Owen tells her that they're still really away from the border and Sadie tells him that it's been quite the thing these past few years and that people pay cartels to get them as far as Rio Grande as they can and that when they have them, they jack up the price and if they can't pay, they get rid of them. They're interrupted by Buttercup barking and the door opening and notice that the man is gone. Owen goes on the porch and screams for him without getting any answers, he grabs his coat and hat and leaves the cabin to find the man. Sadie tries to stop him but fails. Owen goes in the woods, yelling for the man who run away, and he accidentally fall off a hill, knocking himself unconscious and laying on the ground.

He comes back to himself in a barn, full of people. A woman - Elena - hovers over him asking how his head is, Owen replies that it hurts. They found him in the storm and decided to bring him there. Owen asks her what happened, and a man interrupts them in Spanish, telling them to not trust Owen because he could be with immigration. Owen tells them that he doesn't care where they're from, he's just glad they came and thanks them for saving him. Owen tells them that they can't stay in this barn because it's too cold. He asks again what happened to Elena and she tells him that they were transported from McAllen when the coyotes tried to take everything from them. They fought back and there was a crash, and they took back what was theirs. The ones who could run away and the others stayed behind. Owen says that he thinks he found one who was injured and was looking for him when the storm hit. The doors of the barn open and Owen recognizes the man who he was looking for, the guy gets a gun out of his pocket and Owen realizes that's the man the migrants were running from.

Paul[]

After the building collapses, Paul tries to contact his team but can't because his radio is busted. He frees his leg and looks around before finding Lindsey. She asks him what happened and he tells her that the roof collapsed before asking her if anything hurts. She tells him that she doesn't think so. He introduces himself and checks her for signs of concussions, asking her to follow his finger and asking her where she is. She replies that they're at Providence then continues with saying "Tuesday. Joe Biden", Paul chuckles and realises that she played that game before. Lindsey asks him how he knows her name and Paul tells her that his team and him have been sent there to rescue her. Lindsey says that she can't believe it and Paul tells her that she's a 16 years old volunteer in a shelter and that world can't afford to lose kids like her. Lindsey says that she actually can't believe someone noticed she was missing, Paul tells her that they did and that his team are looking for them right now. Paul tries to radio in his team again without success before telling Lindsey to cover her ears and shooting for Mateo and Judd. Lindsey asks if she can see his radio and when she does, she tells him that she can fix it.

Thanks to Lindsey fixing his radio and to Grace helping them, Paul manages to radio-in Judd and Mateo and tells them he's in the locker room. Paul tells her that it's because of her that they'll be find and Lindsey replies that it's actually because of her that they're stuck here and that she should've gotten out with everyone else when Carlos told them too but that when the roof started to come down, she froze and that's it's all her fault. Paul tells her that she's being a bit too hard on herself. Lindsey replies that she isn't, she always choke up under pressure and that's why she quit dressage and cello. And she says that now they could literally freeze to death, because of her. Paul tries to reassure her by saying that his team is on the way and that they're going to be fine, right before the water pipes burst and are soaking them. Paul quicky radio Judd and Mateo and tells them they have to shut the water off which Judd says to Captain Andrews. Few seconds later, the water is shut off. Lindsey tells him that she's really cold and Paul tries to reassure her and tells her that she's going to be fine. Mateo points out to Judd that if they're hypothermic and wet survivals went from hours to minutes.

Later, Paul finds a trash bag - which is a potential life saver - and tells Lindsey that she has to strip downs, she's confused and asks him why because she's already freezing. Paul tells her that wet clothes drop her body temperature even faster so anything that isn't dry as to come off, but she doesn't have to worry because she won't be totally naked, she'll be wearing the trash bag since it'll keep the body heat in her body, it'll keep her alive. Lindsey changes her clothes and Paul gives her his turnout coat, claiming that he won't need it because he's from Chicago and he's used to the cold. Some time later, they're both waiting for Judd and Mateo to come save him and Paul stops Lindsey from falling asleep because if she does, she dies. She tells him that her eyes are so heavy and he tells her that his are too but that they need to fight. He tells her about a woman he dated years ago who was a resident and when she worked 30-hour shifts, she used to put pebbles in her shoes so it could piss her off and you can't sleep if you're pissed off. Paul asks Lindsey what pisses her off and she tells him that she doesn't know because she's not an angry person. Paul raises his voice and asks her if that makes her sound nice, it doesn't, it makes her sound pathetic before yelling at her to get real and tells him what pisses her off. She tells him that she's pissed off when people make her feel invisible: kids at school, volunteers at church, her dad when he has a deadline. Judd warns them that they're about to make a hole in the wall so it might get shaky where they are. Paul replies that they're ready for the excitement. While they're breaking the wall, Paul's vision gets blurry and he falls unconscious, Lindsey tries to get him to wake up, asking Judd and Mateo for help. Lindsey yells at Paul and it wakes him up, she asks him what pisses him off and he asks apart from people yelling at him. She says yes. Paul tells her that what pisses him off is the fact that they closed down his firehouse over some bullshit. Lindsey asks him what bullshit and he tells her that it was about budget cuts. Lindsey asks him why does he love the 126 so much and Paul replies that it's the people. Lindsey tells him to talk about the people. Paul tells her about Marjan who is his "ride or die", Judd who is a redneck but he's all heart and Mateo too. She asks him about his Captain and Paul tells her he's the reason Paul came down to Texas and that he misses him. He falls asleep and Lindsey shakes him so he wakes up. Mateo arrives at that moment and tells them to stay put, they're coming for them right now. Judd joins them and they get Lindsey and Paul out. Judd giving his turnout coat to Paul so he can get warm up a little before Paul is brought to the hospital

TK[]

Tommy, TK and Nancy are sent on a call about a boy being trapped under a pond. They arrive on scene and after sliding a bit because of the ice and snow, TK manages to park them on the side of the road. Tommy asks TK to get the ECMO machine ready and starts the warming fluids and Nancy to help her with the gurney before telling them to be careful because they don't need a broken tailbone right now. Joe, Carol's husband, tells them that he puts his hat where the boy is so the firefighters could find him when they get here before asking if they're close. Nancy replies that they're all spoken for because of the "Snowmaggedon". TK tells them that he was a firefighter in New York and he has done ice rescues before. Joe asks them if they shouldn't need special gear and Tommy tells them that they'll have to improvise.

Later, Tommy and Nancy attach TK to a bed sheet as to create a life ring while he's using a laryngoscope as an ice pick. Tommy asks him if he's sure about this and TK tells her to not worry because he's done tons of those in Central Park and that it's no different. Nancy tells him that he's not using the actual gear so it is a bit different, and TK agrees. TK quickly finds the kid and has to break through the ice with his ice pick. He manages to do so and breaks the ice above the kid, he grabs the kid from under the water and brings him to the surface right before the ice cracks under TK and make him fall in the pond. Tommy yells at Nancy to not let go and to pull TK up by using the rope made with a bed sheet which they succeed to. Nancy and Tommy starts to crawl towards them to bring them back but TK tells them to stay where they are and to pull them up by using the rope.

They manage to get the kid on the gurney but he has no pulse nor respiration. Carol asks them if that means he's dead and Tommy replies that no one is dead until they're warm and dead. They bring the gurney toward the ambulance only to realise that the ambulance slided because of the ice and crashed into a tree. Tommy tells TK to radio dispatch while Nancy is doing CPR on the kid, and to tell them to bring another rig and a tow truck. Tommy then asks Nancy to bring the ECMO machine before turning to Carol and Joe, asking the couple if the heater of their car works. In the car, Nancy is doing CPR on the kid and Tommy asks a frozen and shivering TK to prepare the femoral for the kid. Tommy canulates the femoral artery and once she's done, she asks TK to fire up the ECMO machine and Nancy to stop compressions. Joe asks them what the machine is and Tommy replies that it's a machine that will do the work of his heart and lungs for him, and that while it oxygenates his blood, it also warms him up from the inside out. After long seconds, they get a pulse and the boy starts coughing the water he had in his lungs. Then, they transfer the boy to the paramedics who join them on the scene and once they leave, Tommy realises that TK is missing.

Tommy and Nancy go around the lake, looking for TK. Nancy wonders why would he run off like that when Tommy notices TK's pants on the ground, confusing Nancy even more. Few meters away, they find TK naked, shivering and muttering something. Tommy calls for him and TK slightly realises that Tommy and Nancy are here and Tommy tells him that they have some blankets for him, TK replies that he's fine and Nancy says that he's getting frostbites on his ass. When they try to cover him up, TK fights back disoriented and tells them to get away, saying that he was feeling hot but it's much better now. Tommy tells Nancy that combativeness is a symptom of severe hypothermia before TK starts muttering prayers in Hebrew. Nancy is confused about him speaking tongues before Tommy tells her she thinks it's Hebrew. Tommy squats down next to TK and tells him that all his blood has left his extremeties and are around his core and that's why he feels so hot, it's called paradoxical undressing and that means it's near fatal right now. Nancy continues by telling him they're not going to let him freeze to death on their watch so he either gets up and walks or they'll drag him out of here. TK agrees and they help him stand up. Once he's up, Nancy asks him when he was going to tell them he speaks Hebrew and TK says that he doesn't, not since he was 10 years old in Hebrew school. Tommy tells him that it seems like some of it stuck and few seconds later, TK loses consciouness and Nancy and Tommy make him lay on the ground, quickly realising that he has no pulse and no heartbeat either. Tommy starts CPR on him and after Nancy is done preparing him, Tommy uses the defibrillator on him, without success. Later, Tommy is at the hospital getting the latest news from TK's doctor and she comes out of the room, telling Nancy and Carlos that they have to find Owen

Grace[]

Grace is still at the dispatch center and receives a call from a woman, Carol, who tells her that there's a boy trapped under a lake. Grace asks her if she knows how long the boy has been under the pond, Carol replies that she doesn't but her husband saw the boy opens his eyes but that was 5 minutes ago. She tells Grace that they tried to break the ice but that it was too thick and that they have to send someone to help them. Grace replies that every firetrucks close to the pond are already busy because of the storm but that she sees another unit in the area and that she'll send them (Tommy, TK and Nancy) there. Later, Judd calls Grace through dispatch and tells her that the last time they saw Paul was at the south wall and that they need her help so Grace starts looking at the building schematics of the structure. Grace realises that they're somewhere on the basketball court and Judd confirms it when he finds a hoop, Mateo telling him that "his lady is good" and Judd replying that it's why he called her. Judd asks Grace how they should proceed to find Paul and she tells him that their best bet is to "double back through the Alpha Bravo wall" because there's a lot of load-bearing beams and a good chance of air pockets for them to make it through. Judd thanks her and they're interrupted by Paul's voice on the radio, Mateo asks him where he is and Paul replies that he's in some sort of locker room, Grace tells them that the locker room is 25 yards northeast to where they are right now.

Later that day, Grace is surprised at the dispatch center by Judd, holding bags of grocery store for the rest of her shift. She asks him what he's doing here and he tells her that himself and the rest of the guys were going to go check on Paul at the hospital and he told them to stop the truck so he could come by and thank her for the help during Paul and Lindsey's rescue. Judd cleans the puddle of water he made because of his boots covered in ice and Grace asks him what he brought with him, Judd leads her to the break room of the dispatch center and when she asks him if the whole team is waiting outside in the truck, he tells her that it's not the whole team and that they at least have the heat on. Judd tells Grace that he couldn't bear the thought of her drinking chamomille tea so he bought her English breakfast tea and Judd says that he did and he brought her ginger chews she likes when her stomach is upset, and cough drops just in case too. Grace tells him that she told him she was fine on the phone and Judd replies that he knows but he wanted to come check on his girls anyways. Grace tells him that his girls are fine and they appreciate him but that if he leaves his crew outside any longer, they are the ones who will need the medicinals. Judd agrees but tells her to holler him on the radio if she needs anything

Judd[]

Judd is outside of the now collapsed building, telling Captain Andrews that they need to go inside before USAR put a red tag on the building. Andrews tells him that there's 20,000 pounds of ice on the structure and that they can give them some ladders and chainsaws to start removing the biggest pieces. Judd replies that this would take a couple of days. Andrews tells him to remember what happened the last time they went in and that they don't even know if Paul and Lindsey's status or where they are. Judd goes after him and tells him that if they lose Lindsey then he wants to be able to look into her parents' eyes and tells them they have done everything in their power to save her, which is not the case right now. But that if they go in there quickly and tread lightly, they can take a look around before USAR shuts the building down. Andrews accepts but tells them that if USAR make the call, they have to get out of the building right away.

Inside the building, Judd leads the team composed of Mateo and some members of the 122. He tells them to be safe and to not compromise the structure. They scream for Paul and tries to find him through their thermal detector without success. Mateo says that maybe they're going in the wrong direction, if they even know which direction is the right one. Judd tells him that they don't, but he knows someone that could help them figure it out. Judd calls Grace through dispatch and tells her that the last time they saw Paul was at the south wall while Grace is looking at the building schematics of the structure. Grace realizes that they're somewhere on the basketball court and Judd confirms it when he finds a hoop, Mateo telling him that "his lady is good" and Judd replying that it's why he called her.

Judd and Mateo get out of the structure and join Captain Andrews outside again because they couldn't get to them from the inside. Andrews asks them what they suggest, and Judd says that they'll try to make it through the outside with a couple of pneumatic jackhammers before opening a hole in a wall and make it to the locker room. Andrews tells them that vibration could make the building collapse even more, Judd agrees that it's a risk and Mateo says that Paul and Lindsey won't make it out of here if they don't try. Andrews tells them that he gets the feeling that even if he says no, they'll do it anyway and Judd tells him he's right. Judd radio-in Paul and tells him they're about to make a hole in the wall so it might get a little shaky where they are. After minutes, they manage to make a hole and Mateo and Judd go through it, helping Lindsey and Paul out of here, Judd giving up his turnout coat to Paul so it can warm him up a little before Paul is brought to the hospital.

Later that day, Judd surprises Grace at the dispatch center, holding bags of grocery store for the rest of her shift. She asks him what he's doing here, and he tells her that himself and the rest of the guys were going to go check on Paul at the hospital and he told them to stop the truck so he could come by and thank her for the help during Paul and Lindsey's rescue. Judd tells Grace that he couldn't bear the thought of her drinking chamomile tea, so he bought her English breakfast tea and Judd says that he did, and he brought her ginger chews she likes when her stomach is upset, and cough drops just in case too. Grace tells him that she told him she was fine on the phone and Judd replies that he knows but he wanted to come check on his girls anyways. Grace tells him that his girls are fine, and they appreciate him but that if he leaves his crew outside any longer, they are the ones who will need the medicinal. Judd agrees but tells her to holler him on the radio if she needs anything.
