Season Four is the fourth season of 9-1-1. It was first announced on April 13, 2020.[4]

The season premiered on January 18, 2021 with "The New Abnormal".

After a devastating 7.1 earthquake and coastal tsunami wreaked havoc in the city, what could possibly be next? Meanwhile, among the chaos, Athena is determined to put her physical and emotional injuries behind her and jump back into the job, as Maddie and Chimney prepare for the birth of their baby, and Buck delves into his past to help deal with his present.   • Cheryl Dorsey, a Black woman who is a former LAPD field sergeant, was hired as a consultant for the writers’ room this season as Tim Minear wanted to find a way to directly explore the topics of of the Black Lives Matter protests in the wake of the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. [23]
  • On May 23, 2020, Tim Minear confirmed that a Buck Begins episode was planned for Season Four. This episode will be focused around Evan Buckley's backstory. [24]
    • On November 15, 2020, Oliver Stark revealed the official script for the officially titled episode, "Buck Begins" on Twitter, written by Juan Carlos Coto. [25]
  • On August 27, 2020, it was announced that John Harlan Kim would become a series regular in Season Four. [26]
  • On November 22, 2020, Oliver Stark and Ronen Rubinstein posted a promotional image for a crossover episode with its spinoff series. [27]
