Samuel Carter is the father of Athena Grant-Nash, the father-in-law of Bobby Nash, and the grandfather of May and Harry Grant.

History[]

Early Life[]

Samuel attended law school at Texas A&M University and was an attorney like his father, who was the first Black lawyer to pass the Florida bar.[1]

Tanya Kingston's Disappearance[]

In 1977, on the day that Tanya Kingston went missing, Samuel came home late looking disheveled, which he explained was because he had a flat tire on the way home. Later that night, Tanya's mother came by their house, looking for her daughter. She said Tanya was missing and that she couldn't find her anywhere. Samuel told Tanya's mother to go back to her house in case Tanya showed up and told Beatrice to call the sheriff. He then grabbed his gun and went out to help search for a missing Tanya.

Visiting Athena[]

Shortly after Athena and Bobby got engaged, Samuel and Beatrice came to Los Angeles to visit them. He was nicer to Bobby and more supportive of his daughter's decisions than his wife Beatrice was. He also tried to de-escalate situations and not contribute to them.[2]

Stroke[]

While leaving to run some errands, Samuel suffered a stroke and crashed the car into his house. Athena and Bobby drove out to Florida to see her parents and learned that Samuel had been put in a medically induced coma after the accident. While Samuel was in the hospital, the body of Tanya Kingston was found under the Florida room that Samuel crashed into earlier, leading the police to suspect him of murder. Athena and Bobby worked together to clear her father's name and ultimately found out that Franklin Junior, a childhood friend of Athena, killed Tanya and that his father Reggie helped him hide the body under the room that he was building for the Carters. The next day, Samuel finally woke up from the coma and told Athena that he was proud of her for never giving up on the Tanya Kingston case.
