Ramon Diaz is a character on 9-1-1 who is the father of Edmundo Diaz and the grandfather of Christopher Diaz.
History[]
Early Life[]
Ramon had the mindset of what it means to be a man, such as being the main provider and not appear weak. He often tried to force this onto his only son, Eddie, which caused a strain on their relationship. He also wasn't present for any of his kids' births.[1]
When his daughter, Adriana, was born, Eddie had taken the truck to take Helena to the hospital but had crashed it, leaving a huge scrape on the side. Eddie remembers Ramon grounding him for it.[2]
Argument with Eddie[]
Before Eddie moved to L.A., he had an argument with his parents about his parenting and busy schedule. They had tried to convince Eddie to have Christopher live with them permanently, arguing that he needs consistency. Helena blames Shannon for leaving Eddie and Chris, showing her resentment towards her. Eddie also points out his dad wasn't around much when he was a kid, he counters that he was "providing for the family". Eddie accuses them of stealing Chris as a "do-over". Eddie eventually to move to L.A. and take Christopher with him.[1]
Family Reunion[]
Ramon insults Shannon for walking out on Eddie and Chris after her funeral, before being reprimanded by Isabel. They try to get Eddie to come back to Texas due to being a single father and his busy schedule as a firefighter. Eddie states it's not that simple as he's almost done with his probationary year. He figures out they didn't come for the funeral and their true intention was to get them to move back to El Paso. Helena argues they will be with family back in Texas, which offends Pepa and Isabel who are both L.A. based. Eddie refuses to uproot Chris, but Ramon says he spent the first six years in El Paso with them.[3]
Retirement[]
Ramon is having a retirement party, and many of his family members attend, including Eddie. At the party, Ramon tells the story of Eddie damaging his truck, which he finds hilarious. However, Ramon claims he forgave him for that, but Eddie says otherwise. This causes an argument and Eddie lets his anger out and reveals all the times Ramon got angry with him. This causes him to faint and Eddie finds his pills he needs to take. Ramon had several stints in his arteries three years ago and never told anyone due to pride and not wanting to seem weak.[2]
Relationship[]
Eddie Diaz[]
Eddie has a strained relationship with his parents, Ramon and Helena Diaz, largely due to their doubting his ability to raise Christopher, and their hostility towards Shannon.
Helena Diaz[]
Helena is Ramon's wife. Not much is known about their relationship and marriage, but they do seem to be a united front when it comes to their opinions on Shannon, Eddie's parenting, and their desire to have their grandson live closer to them.
