May and Athena is the mother-daughter relationship from 9-1-1 between May Grant and Athena Grant-Nash.
Overview[]
While May and Athena have a typical mother-daughter relationship and love each other dearly, they have lots of disagreements with each other, especially when it came to Athena's job as a cop. This started when May, Michael and Harry were pulled over for no reason and had a gun drawn on them. Athena defended the cops more than her family, saying it was simply a "bad stop". Athena was also upset when she saw May's essay about being ashamed of her and her job. While she admired her mother, she feels like Athena is misguided in trying to fix a system that is broken beyond repair. Athena also wasn't thrilled when May decided to take a job at dispatch rather than attend college, as she didn't think May would be ready to take on such an emotionally heavy job.
Despite their disagreements, they often worry about each other's safety, such as when Athena was trapped near the Hollywood sign helping a shut-in and May told her to leave when she could.
