Full Summary[]
Blue is about to take his academy test. He is still angry with Don and Dixie after finding out what was in the office. Dixie and Blythe run into each other and exchange snarky words with one another. The 113 watch Blue take his test and cheer him on. Blue starts having flashbacks on his first meeting with Don. He gets angrier and it pushes him to keep going. He then stops right before the finish and leaves. Don and Dixie catch him outside and Blue berates them both for lying. Dixie admits she kept Don from seeing Blue, saying it was for protection. Dixie didn’t want Blue to feel like a second choice like she did with Don. Don tries to get Blue to go back and finish his test. Blue refuses and drives off.
Chief Foster is furious with Don and he may be suspended. Don tells the team to not dwell. Cammie gets a call about Gemma’s kids being kidnapped by her ex, Victor Plante. Victor is planning on killing the kids and is angry that Gemma got full custody. Cammie notes that Victor was a momma’s boy and gets her to call her son. Victor is driving away with the kids and admits to his mom that he has kids. His mom slips that Gemma called and Victor threatens to crash the car. Victor is taking the kids to the quarry, to which Cammie predicts he’s going to drive them off the cliff. Dispatch sends the 113 and Taylor and Roxie are tasked to slow the car down. Victor starts driving recklessly, terrifying his kids. Roxie and Taylor manage to stop the car, while the police apprehend Victor.
Don calls Blythe and tells her his predicament. Dixie storms into the stationhouse looking for Don. Blue never came home and has gone radio silent. Dixie is worried Blue went off the deep end and says the last time this happened he drank himself into a Diabetic Shock. Ryan got a reply from Blue and goes to meet him by himself. On a lake, Jesse and Beau are dynamite fishing. Beau is hesitant, but Jesse insists. It goes wrong obviously and the current pulls in the dynamite towards their boat. The explosion caused a body to float to the surface. They call it in as the current takes the girl away. The 113 follow it on the bridge. Don goes cowboy and uses a rope to try to lasso the body in. They try to revive her and manage to get a heartbeat out of her. Roxie doesn’t hear fluid in her lungs and deduces she went unconscious before she fell into the river. The girl is on opioids and they manage to get her talking. She isn’t breathing and Taylor and Roxie work to save her.
Blue meets Ryan at a diner outside of town. Blue slept in his car and that wasn’t the first time. He immediately insults Ryan and calls him out for getting the better life. Ryan defends Don. The server takes their order and Ryan and Blue have the same food order for breakfast. Ryan points out more similarites between them such as their parents being lied to and their similar purpose in life to help people. Blue keeps thinking he’s a loser and is about to leave as Ryan’s pep talk isn’t working. Ryan tells Blue he needs to make a choice in what he wants in life, without the influence of Dixie or Don. Blue leaves. At the firehouse, Taylor and Roxie are washing the truck. The girl from the river comes to see Roxie. But then it was a dream, snapping Roxie awake. She and Taylor stay awake and talk about the patient. It haunts Roxie and she wants to know what happened. Roxie calls Sam Hart about the Jane Doe. She is stable and no family has shown up. If no one claims the Jane Doe, the hospital will transfer. Roxie volunteers to pay to keep the Jane Doe in the hospital. Roxie relates to her and is willing to drop $25k for the girl.
Roxie and Taylor meet with the advisor. Roxie signs for the UTS to be operated on the Jane Doe. Roxie explains the procedure to Taylor as they watch along with Sam and Dr. Marques. Roxie wanted to step up for the Jane Doe as someone did for her long ago. The Jane Doe starts speaking Dutch. She is talking to her parents. Don is on the phone with his union rep as Ryan walks in. Ryan isn’t pleased with Blue making a fool out of the 113 and isn’t liking that Don is throwing his privilege in his face. He isn’t ready for Don to potentially leave the firehouse, but Don thinks he’ll be okay without him.
Roxie sits by the Jane Doe’s bedside, taking the day off to watch over her. The Jane Doe awakes and is speaking coherently. The girl’s name is Greta and she is revealed to be from Ethridge. She was on Rumspringa and ran away from the Amish community to experience Nashville. Greta got homesick but her family shunned her out for leaving and attempted suicide. Roxie talks about her religious parents, having run away from home as well. One night, she got drugged and was left for dead by her so called friends. When she woke up in the hospital, her parents were by her side and took her back home. It turns out her parents fully accepted Roxie for who she is. Greta’s parents walked in and came as soon as they could. Blue returns to the strip club to get his job back. Blue sees a drunk girl walking down the alley and he goes to try to help her. She gets in her car and Blue calls it in. He chases the car as he talks to Cammie. As Blue continued the pursuit, he sees the driver is passed out. The car approaches a crosswalk full of kids. Blue tells Cammie to tell his mom he loves her as he gets in front of the car to stop it. Blue’s car flips on impact and it explodes.
The 113 arrive on scene and Blue is still alive, but trapped. The drunk driver is arrested. Blue is taken to the hospital and Dixie sits by his side. He wakes up and Dixie got the message from Blue through Cammie. She apologizes to Blue for keeping Don a secret. Blue does not forgive her but he appreciates that she’s the only one who has been there for her. Dixie then admits that Don has been paying child support all these years. Don walks in and the three have a chat. Don talked to the Chief and the department saw Blue dropped the mannequin over the finish line and is allowed to become a full firefighter. Ryan, Roxie, and Taylor walk in as well to see Blue.
