"Point of Origin" is the fifth episode of the first season of 9-1-1. It was written by Erica L. Anderson and directed by Gwyneth Horder-Payton. It aired on January 31, 2018.
Synopsis[]
The crew races to an emergency when disaster strikes at an Indian wedding. Abby enlists the help of Buck to try and find her mother and, for the first time, meets Athena face-to-face. Meanwhile, Bobby has a difficult time confronting his past and Hen struggles to make the right decision.[2]

- Reason for 911 Call:
- Immediately after the initial rites, dancing guests caused the third floor to collapse.
- Process:
- The 118 arrive alongside other units, with Buck reporting 16 DOA so far, one impaled. Bobby isn't surprised from a fall of this height and assumes there will be additional casualties. Hen warns Bobby the groom, Prem, is still looking for the bride, Savita, and Bobby decides to search, whist Buck is instructed to approach from above as they cannot reach the second floor normally. Prem is pulled aside by Bobby and Hen who assure him they are looking for Savita, while Buck descends with other rescue teams and finds an injured man with a broken leg. Hen checks on Prem, and as Buck hands the man to other responders, Bobby finds Savita mostly unharmed and summons Buck. They pull open the debris and lead Savita outside. Soon, Bobby discovers that the third floor was improperly and illegally constructed with Pal-Kal (which involved dumping thin layers of concrete arount a steel sheet, rather than supplying additional steel to reinforce the structure) and angrily attacks the owner until Hen pulls him away. He leaves the scene immediately just as Buck comes over.

- A caller on the 8th floor dialed 911 for firefighters when the fires in the apartment were reaching the room.
- Process:
- Five years ago in Minnesota, a Space Heater left on by Bobby caused a fire in apartment 608 and started ravaging the whole structure. By the time firefighters responded and arrived, the building was engulfed in inferno. Bobby makes his way through and takes out blazes on a burning man who cites the alarms and sprinklers were defunct. The man tries to stop Bobby, though he remains unfazed and tries to barge inside his apartment, only for the floor to collapse, dropping him and the man to the tenth floor. Firefighters arrive, and while he insists he could save his family with these gear, they remove him (and presumably the other man) from the building for safety reasons. Bobby reveals to the priest that he would later learn the building was constructed with highly flammable subpar materials serving as catalysts, and the sprinklers were likewise dysfunctional.

- A truck was struck by a motorcycle and subsequently knocked down some power lines, electrocuting a swimming pool.
- Process:
- Buck assumes the emergency services would assist, but Abby insists they are closer and could be there faster, so he relents. They discover no casualties on the road, as the drivers and passengers were mostly unharmed, and head inside a private estate when cries of help stem there. A women claims her daughter Emma's manny (slang for the male quivalent of a nanny), Alex, tried to rescue her but was killed by electrocution. Buck stops Emma's father from jumping in and orders them to keep Emma on the raft. Abby stops him from using an inflatable killer whale and instead gets a knife from him. She slices off the metal nozzle of a rubber hose, and they stretch it across the pool so Emma can grab it. An explosion crackles behind Buck, but he and Abby keep on moving until Emma reaches the edge and is rescued. Immediately after, the Department of Water and Power shuts off the electricity, followed by some firefighters, though with the situation mostly resolved, there is very little for them to do.

- The owner of a car washing premise dialed emergency services after one of his employees got stuck in a rotating brush.
- Process:
- Bobby wants to take the man down until Hen takes over, and he is transported onto an ambulance. As they finish, Bobby and Hen find Buck laughing at survelience footage of how the incident occured. Amused, Hen and Bobby can no longer hold and burst out laughing alongside the owner. When they ultimately return to the truck, Bobby declares to Hen he will open himself up more to the team in the future.

- This is the first time we learn of Bobby's past in Minnesota. This is later seen and mentioned again in the season two episodes Ocean's 9-1-1 and Bobby Begins Again.
- This is the first episode where Evan Buckley and Abigail Clark encounter each other.
- The wedding disaster might be based on the Versailles wedding hall disaster.
