Charles Vega (June 22, 1968 - April 27, 2021)[1] was a character on FOX's 9-1-1: Lone Star who was the husband of paramedic captain Tommy Vega. He debuted in the first episode of the second season of 9-1-1: Lone Star and was portrayed by guest star Derek Webster.

History[]

Early Life[]

In 2013, his twin daughters with Tommy, Isabella and Evie were born. He was the owner of "Sun & Salt" - a restaurant - until the COVID-19 pandemic hit and it had to close down.

Stay at Home Dad[]

When Tommy went back to work after his restaurant closed, Charles stayed at home to take care of Isabella and Evie. While Tommy was worried about not being able to see her daughters anymore, Charles reassured her by saying that everything would be fine and they would still love her, whether or not she'd spent not as much time as home as she used to. In "Displaced", Tommy is annoyed at Charles for being such a perfect father and taking her spot when she's the one who trained Evie at Taekwondo for the most part of the year. She tells him that and Charles answers that he'll do anything to make his daughters happy even if Tommy has to resent him for it.

Death[]

In "The Big Heat", Tommy comes home after the fire at TK and Carlos' place and finds Charles sitting on an armchair, she picks up a sock that fell on the ground and tells him about it without him answering. She looks up and finds him staring at nothing, unresponsive. In "One Day", Tommy does CPR on him but eventually realized Charles was long gone. She calls 911 so they can remove him, and asks for the coroner at the hospital to do an autopsy. Later, she finds out that Charles died from an aneurysm, meaning his death was inevitable and nothing could be done to save him.

Relationships[]

Tommy Vega[]

Before the show started, Charles and Tommy bought a new house together with three bedrooms and while Tommy is worried that they'll never be able to fill them, Charles is convinced of the opposite. Charles and Tommy try to get pregnant three times via IVF treatments and Tommy is heartbroken over the fact that she's not pregnant. Tommy tells Charles that she's tired of all of this and Charles tells her that they don't have to do all of this at all, that they can carry on being "ridiculously happy" on their own. Tommy tells him that she knows and she loves him for that but she wants to have a baby with him. During labour, Charles is present holding her hand through everything. Charles and Tommy are extremely supportive of each other. Charles understands why she's frustrated when she hasn't seen her daughters and that she doesn't have to apologise for taking it out on him.
