9-1-1 Wiki

Chief Bridges was a character on 9-1-1: Lone Star and a Texas Ranger who was the direct superior of Gabriel Reyes and later his son Carlos Reyes. He is revealed to be a dirty cop, responsible for the murders of Gabriel and other rangers.

He was portrayed by Alan Autry.

History[]

Not much is known of his early life, other that he worked with Gabriel Reyes for several years and seemingly respected him and his capabilities. He also mentored Sam Campbell from a rookie to become one of his top men, besides Gabriel.

Gabriel's death[]

During a celebration of his son's dismantling an organ trafficking ring, Gabriel reveals he spoke with his Chief on the belief that his son Carlos Reyes should be accepted into the Texas Rangers. He believed his son ready because of his history of halting a kidnapping, catching a serial killer, and dismantling an organ trafficking ring; with Bridges agreeing. However, Carlos had refused the offer, as he was content with being a cop and not ready yet. After Gabriel was murdered, Bridges spoke highly of him at his funeral and gave his widow a flag in respect. [1]

Once a devastated Carlos discovers Gabriel was investigating a mole within the Texas Rangers, he went on a solo investigation that led him to Pablo Martinez, who had called him on a burner phone to warn him that he was in danger, days before Gabriel's death. Bridges and TK later stopped Carlos from harming Martinez, who was actually an Undercover agent and Bridges explain that the dirty rangers had been found long ago. Bridges also claimed that the Texas Rangers truly had no idea who killed Gabriel. Carlos was saddened but went on with his wedding to TK regretting that his father was not present. [2]

Working with another Reyes[]

A year later after the murder of Gabriel, Bridges allowed the latter's son Carlos to join the Texas Rangers, and he started to investigate a string of armored truck robberies. Bridges was annoyed by Campbell and Carlos' constant arguments, so he forced the pair to cooperate by making them team up. When an annoyed Campbell protests this, Bridges defended Carlos by bringing up his accomplishments as a cop. He is later pleased when they finally reached common ground after discovering the M.O of the perps and how it was connected to someone in the military. After he expressed displeasure at the idea of arresting veterans, both Carlos and Campbell implore him to let them move in on this because they believed that it would only be matter of time before they strike again, so Bridges decided to set up a successful sting that ended the robberies. Afterwards, he and the rangers held a conference to let the public know that the offenders were in custody. [3]

Corrupt Ranger and death[]

While investigating a gang killing, it leads the rangers to new information on Gabriel's murder. Bridges was unsure if this will lead to anything, bringing up how Carlos went rogue and attacked and U.C while telling Campbell to disregard that but Carlos states he can handle it. During the case, they form a team with police department. Afterwards Nestor Grimes, the captive man awakes, and Carlos speaks with him before he dies. Soon Bridges and Campbell inquire if the man said anything, but Carlos claims he didn't reveal anything. Unknown to either of them, Nestor used his dying breath to reveal to Carlos that Gabriel warned him of Campbell, meaning he is supposedly connected to the murder of Carlos' father and responsible for the deaths of other rangers. [4]

Carlos informs Bridges that the dying Grimes informed him that Campbell was supposedly the corrupt Ranger who murdered Gabriel when Gabriel investigated corruption in the Ranger ranks. Bridges had a hard time considering it, though decides to look into it while telling Carlos to fix his poker face to not let Campbell know they were onto him. After Campbell found out his credentials were used to see who the confidential informants to the rangers were even on the day he was celebrating his son's birthday, Campbell goes on the run and tried to prepare the necessary things for escape in hopes to find out who was corrupt, his plan was found out by Bridges. The rallied Rangers and cops pursue Campbell to the border, where a shoot-off occurred. Bridges got a strike to the hand, while Carlos continued to return fire until Campbell stopped shooting. Bridges tried get Carlos to take the shot at Campbell, but Carlos refused as this was unprecedented of a traitor and he noticed that Bridges did not want to take Campbell alive. Soon he noticed Bridges carry a sidearm that matched the one that killed his father. Realizing that his ruse was up, he shot Carlos while admitting that he was the one who shot his father, who had realized that Campbell was innocent, and someone tried to throw him off. He sarcastically acknowledged Carlos was better than his father in being a Ranger because he never figured who and half-heartedly apologized for ruining Carlos' wedding. He voiced his intent to kill Carlos, then kill and frame Campbell to cover his tracks. Just as he is about to kill Carlos, Campbell interfered by shooting Bridges dead before the two collapsed of their injuries. While at the hospital, Campbell and Carlos apologized to one another and made amends with each other. Carlos stated that it was unknown how Austin will react to the truth of Bridges but he speculated that the board will most likely covered the story up to preserve any good reputation of what Bridges had if there were any. Carlos also visited his father's grave to let him know he got him justice. [5]
